But the warning comes with a huge opportunity: an economy focused on nature regeneration could generate up to US$1.4 trillion per year and generate 395 million jobs by 2030.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left\">Based on this urgency and opportunity, the <strong>Brazilian Business Council for Sustainable Development (CEBDS)<\/strong> launched the e-book <strong>\u201cBiodiversity and Business: good Brazilian business practices towards Positive Nature\u201d<\/strong>, a free and unprecedented publication aimed at companies from all sectors, developed in partnership with ERM, a global sustainability consultancy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left\">The launch took place during the 1st Biodiversity &amp; Business Workshop, held at Eletrobras headquarters in Rio de Janeiro last week. \u201cBiodiversity sustains the functioning of ecosystems on which we depend for basic issues such as food, drinking water, climate regulation and protection against natural disasters. This is a fundamental topic for companies and society. Therefore, we sought to create a publication that, in addition to providing quality technical content, is a practical tool to raise awareness among leaders and integrate the topic into corporate strategy,\u201d highlights Anderson Ign\u00e1cio, Nature and Society Manager at CEBDS.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left\">The publication was prepared by CEBDS, through its Thematic Chamber on Biodiversity and Biotechnology (CTBio), based on technical meetings held since 2021 on measuring Positive Net Impact. The work presents the concept of \u201cPositive Nature\u201d, from the different perspectives of leading global organizations. In addition to discussing ways to incorporate the concept into business strategies, the document presents some of the methodologies and tools for measuring and managing risks, impacts and dependencies. The e-book also includes good business practices from Anglo American, Eletrobras, Igu\u00e1 Saneamento, Petrobras, Philip Morris Brasil, Santander, Suzano, Total Energies and Vale that develop actions in favor of biodiversity towards positive nature.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left\">Through CTBio, CEBDS works on multisectoral initiatives to engage the Brazilian business sector in the biodiversity agenda. In this context, it is worth highlighting its work on the construction of the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework, supporting the government in implementing the National Biodiversity Strategy and Action Plan (NBSAP) and promoting good practices towards a positive nature.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThe major challenge when we talk about measuring the impact on biodiversity is that it cannot be limited to a single metric. Biodiversity involves a wide variety of components such as fauna, flora, ecosystems and the services they provide, which requires multiple approaches and different metrics to effectively measure the impacts on it. This issue is even more challenging when we talk about a megadiverse country like Brazil, which holds 15-20% of the planet\u2019s biodiversity. Therefore, the e-book\u2019s major contribution is to bring the main methodological concepts, approaches and assessment tools. With examples and success stories in different sectors that already use these metrics, interested companies can replicate and chart paths in the same direction\u201d, highlights Vanessa Pereira, CEBDS biodiversity coordinator.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The e-book is <a href=\"https:\/\/cebds.org\/en\/publicacoes\/biodiversidade-e-negocios-boas-praticas-empresariais-brasileiras-rumo-a-natureza-positiva\/\">available for free download on the CEBDS website<\/a>.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>About CEBDS<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Brazilian Business Council for Sustainable Development (CEBDS) is a non-profit civil association that has been promoting sustainable development in Brazil since 1997, through partnerships with governments and civil society, in addition to disseminating the most current concepts and practices on the subject.
