This convergence of efforts strengthens the role of Brazilian agriculture as a protagonist in the transition to a low-carbon economy and demonstrates the sector's maturity in collaboratively building evidence-based solutions focused on the country's sustainable development," he states. Marina Grossi, president of CEBDS It is Special Envoy of the Business Sector for COP30.

The Agriculture Coalition, which also had the collaboration of scientific institutions such as Embrapa, Getulio Vargas Foundation, Dom Cabral Foundation It is University of São Paulo, integrates sectoral efforts in preparation for the COP30, taking place in just over 30 days in Belém, Pará. The work reinforces the proactive role of Brazilian agribusiness and seeks to present a unified proposal for the production chain to address climate challenges, contributing technical and strategic insights to the conference discussions and the implementation of Brazil's new Nationally Determined Contribution (NDC).

"Brazilian agriculture is uniquely positioned to lead the transition to a low-carbon economy without losing out on increased agricultural production. The fact that we can mitigate approximately 80% of emissions through levers that we already have technical knowledge of and are being implemented by Brazilian producers is different from what we see in other sectors that still require investment in innovation or even the discovery of new technologies. Another important point is that many of the levers guarantee greater profitability in the medium to long term, that is, they add economic value to the producer; but the analysis highlights a central point for this transition: the initial capital intensity versus the speed of economic recovery and productive stability. Therefore, what we need is a real joint effort to direct resources toward this transition, which does not require capital." ad aeternum. The study's results reinforce Brazil's importance in integrating food security and combating climate change. highlights Juliana Lopes, director of ESG, Communication and Compliance at Amaggi.

Brazilian agribusiness is part of the country's climate solution, primarily through regenerative agriculture. It will be necessary to mobilize at least $120 billion to $170 billion in credit under appropriate conditions. The Agriculture Coalition proposes addressing this gap through structural solutions that involve increasing catalytic capital—resources from public sources, philanthropic sources, and climate funds used to attract and unlock private investment in sustainable projects—expanded access to green credit, encouraging research and technological innovation, and valuing producers who adopt regenerative practices, in addition to recognizing natural assets and regulating the country's carbon market.

The initiative is part of a set of sectoral coalitions coordinated by CEBDS at the request of COP30 Presidency, which also encompasses the electric power, mining, and transportation sectors. All follow the same guideline: transforming the Paris Agreement commitments into concrete mitigation, financing, and innovation actions. For CEBDS, COP30 marks a new phase, focused on the effective implementation of climate goals, in which the business sector plays a crucial role. By coordinating these coalitions and promoting dialogue with the federal government and international organizations, the Council consolidates its role as a strategic link between the productive sector, public authorities, and civil society.

After completing the articulation and construction stage of the sectoral plan, the Agriculture Coalition now advances to its phase of advocacy, aimed at implementing the proposed actions. The focus is on transforming the study's recommendations into concrete measures, integrating them into structural public policies, such as the Climate Plan, the Harvest Plan, and EcoInvest, as well as other financing and incentive mechanisms for sustainable production. This integration is essential to ensure that decarbonization levers become effective on a national scale, promoting a solid transition to a low-carbon agriculture, competitive and aligned with Brazil's climate goals.

Access the study: https://cebds.org/publicacoes/resumo-executivo-da-coalizao-doagribusiness/

About CEBDS

The Brazilian Business Council for Sustainable Development (CEBDS) is a non-profit civil association that has been promoting sustainable development in Brazil since 1997 through collaboration with governments and civil society, as well as disseminating the most current concepts and practices on the topic.
