The Brazilian Business Council for Sustainable Development (CEBDS) has become part of the Network of Solutions for Sustainable Development (Sustainable Development Solutions Network), which advises the UN High-Level Panel of Eminent People on the Post-2015 Development Agenda, responsible for developing the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The Solutions Network, led by economist Jeffrey Sachs, brings together different sectors (governments, companies, academia and civil society) to scale up solutions for sustainable development.
“The idea is to participate in this qualified forum in order to contribute to the achievement of the SDGs,” said CEBDS President Marina Grossi. Starting in 2015, the SDGs will influence public policy guidelines and business investments worldwide in a similar way to the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) since the 2000s.
In May of this year, at an event in Rio de Janeiro, Sachs highlighted the proposal presented to UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-Moon with objectives and targets developed by the Leadership Council of the Sustainable Development Solutions Network to help inform the debate on the SDGs, including the work of the UN High-Level Panel and the Open-ended Working Group on the SDGs established at Rio+20. The Leadership Council took into consideration proposals that emerged from the national and thematic public consultations organized by the UN Task Force, other processes and several reports released by civil society and research organizations.
