Dan Ioschpe announced as COP30 Climate Champion

  • Posted in 03/04/2025

Leader of the B20, a forum for business-oriented actions that takes place parallel to the G20, in 2024, the Vice-President of FIESP will have the role of bringing to the negotiations the concerns of those who do not have a vote in COP decisions.

President Lula announced, at the end of this Wednesday (02), the name of the Climate Champion COP 30 High Level Meeting: Dan Ioschpe, vice-president of FIESP and president of the Board of Directors of Iochpe Maxion, who has also led the B20, a business working forum that takes place parallel to the G20, in 2024.

He will be responsible for include in the event discussions the demands of those who do not have a vote: civil society, academia, subnational governments and the business sector. The climate champion is also responsible for promoting the transition between COP30 and COP31.

With experience in international negotiations, B20 leadership, and for understanding the business sector well, and as vice-president of the Federation of Industries of the State of São Paulo, Dan Ioschpe has the necessary experience to facilitate the dialogues between the private sector, government and civil society that take place at the event, especially in the commitment of companies to the sustainable development.

With the announcement, we have the three main names of COP30: André Corrêa do Lago, President of COP30; Ana Toni, Executive Director of COP30; and Dan Ioschpe, High-Level Climate Champion.

Statements on the choice:

With the choice made public, the newest climate champion spoke out:

“I hope to support the COP30 presidency in advancing climate action, including the energy transition, which is fundamental for socioeconomic development around the world and even more important for Brazil, given its potential to accelerate this agenda. Always integrating the largest possible number of agents in society, capturing the different initiatives and opportunities” – Ioschpe declared publicly after the announcement.

The announcement was also commented on by André Corrêa do Lago, president of COP30, and by Marina Silva, Minister of Environment and Climate Change.

“With the appointment of Dan Ioschpe as High-Level Champion, the COP30 presidency team is significantly strengthened. As he demonstrated at the G20 during the Brazilian presidency, Ioschpe will now be able to make an extraordinary contribution to combining Brazilian priorities for COP30 and private sector action,” said André Corrêa do Lago.

“In addition to having a successful career in the production sector, working for globally renowned Brazilian companies, Dan Ioschpe is a true representative of the strength of Brazilian industry. His leadership, demonstrated at the B20 during Brazil’s presidency of the G20, demonstrates his ability to engage in dialogue with the national and international private sector,” said Marina Silva.

The choice of a name with links to the business sector and previous experience in international negotiations reinforces Brazil's position on the climate agenda in this year's discussions, enhancing the country's influence in the global debate on the topic.

With the appointment of the 3 main positions, it is now expected that the combined experience of the experts will help promote concrete actions in favor of sustainable development and climate change mitigation during COP30, the largest event to combat climate change in the world, which will take place in Belém, Pará, in November 2025.

COP30: what is it and what are the objectives?

The United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP) is the leading international event on climate change, bringing together global leaders, businesses, organizations and experts to discuss solutions to help curb global warming. Held annually by the UN, COP is essential for sustainable development, implementing the Paris Agreement, setting new climate goals and promoting the transition to a low-carbon economy.

In 2025, the 30th Conference of the Parties will be held in Brazil, in the capital of Pará, Belém, from November 10 to November 21, 2025. This will be the first time that Brazil will host the event, highlighting the importance of the Amazon in combating global warming and promoting a climate agenda.
