In 2024, CEBDS achieved important milestones as a strategic articulator between companies, society and public authorities in building a sustainable future. Throughout last year, we promoted relevant actions and high-impact deliveries on the climate, biodiversity and social justice agendas.
CEBDS was present at international forums such as Pre-COP16, Climate Week NYC, One Planet Network, COP16 – with 73 representatives, three side events and three strategic bilateral meetings – and COP29, promoting dialogues on energy transition and carbon markets. In Brazil, CEBDS expanded its role in the sustainable development agenda with initiatives such as the Seminar on Just Energy Transition in Rio Grande do Norte, the Sector Workshop on Sociobioeconomy, and active participation in the G20 agendas, in the Technical-Scientific Panel on Bioeconomy.
In 2024, the Council of Leaders, already consolidated among the senior leadership of the associated companies, promoted strategic dialogues between CEOs and authorities, in three meetings with participation throughout the year, with Aloizio Mercadante, president of BNDES, ambassador André Corrêa do Lago, president of COP30, and Helder Barbalho, governor of Pará. Based on the agenda of one of these meetings, CEBDS launched the Transport Coalition with Motiva (formerly CCR) and Insper, for the decarbonization of the sector.
Also in 2024, CEBDS made a major contribution to the approval of the Carbon Market Law, culminating advocacy work that began in 2016. Months before the presidential sanction, the entity drafted a letter of support for the PL, signed by more than 50 associated companies, for various strategic stakeholders of this agenda.
Internationally, it strengthened its role as the WBCSD representative in Brazil and a partner of the We Mean Business Coalition (WMBC). It signed a memorandum of understanding with the WBCSD and assumed coordination of the Brazil Chapter of the Women Leading on Climate coalition, expanding its influence leading up to COP30.
Over the past year, CEBDS has intensively mobilized its Thematic Chambers, Working Groups and Task Forces, totaling more than 200 hours of technical collaboration on priority topics. The work was strengthened by the support of 24 sponsoring companies, representing 10 economic sectors.
There were 11 publications launched, such as studies and analyses in the areas of nature, climate and society, reaffirming the commitment to advancing ESG agendas in the business sector.
