Waterway transport plays a strategic role in decarbonizing Brazil's logistics matrix by combining high cargo handling capacity with lower emission intensity compared to road transport. The executive report presents the main findings of the Transport Coalition for the segment, including scenarios for the expansion of the mode and emission reduction levers associated with operational efficiency, the use of biofuels, electrification and Power-to-X technologies, as well as improvements in port infrastructure. The publication points to ways to expand the participation of waterway transport in the national matrix in a competitive and sustainable manner, reconciling growth in cargo handling, technological innovation and reduction of carbon emissions by 2050.
