How Brazil’s new NDC can stimulate private sector investment in climate action

Brazil, as host of COP30, seeks to establish itself as a global climate leader. Its new Nationally Determined Contribution (NDC) sets emissions reduction targets of between 59% and 67% by 2035, compared to 2005 levels, increasing ambition compared to the previous 2030 target. The new Brazilian NDC represents a significant opportunity to attract investment to industries, foster low-emission solutions and increase the resilience of economic sectors in Brazil. The Climate Plan, which outlines policies and actions for the implementation of the NDC, is currently under development.

Private sector engagement and investment play a crucial role in achieving the global target set out in the new NDC. Effective public policies to implement the NDC can benefit the private sector by creating institutional support to accelerate the decarbonization of companies and foster investment in lower-emission sectors of the economy.

CEBDS, in collaboration with the We Mean Business Coalition, has developed recommendations so that the new national NDC can encourage private sector investment in climate change
