3 reasons to implement sustainable practices in your company

  • Posted in 15/06/2016

Many managers still have doubts about the need to implement sustainable practices in their companies. Some think it is not so essential, while others argue that it can be a lot of work.

In fact, a sustainable company requires a great deal of effort from managers and employees. It is, in fact, a change in mindset in the way operational processes are carried out.

In this article, we present 3 reasons why you should implement sustainable practices in your business and secure your place among the leading companies in the market. Check it out!

1) The results of implementing sustainable practices come in the medium and long term and implementation takes time

The results obtained with changes to sustainable processes are not quick. Initially, the changes impact the company's procedures and, later, its cash flow. Therefore, it is essential that the organization as a whole trusts in this implementation and understands that the fruits will only be reaped in the future if the actions are implemented immediately.

Likewise, incorporating a sustainable culture into a company's processes also takes time. The company's leadership and operational team need to believe in the idea of economic sustainability with the same enthusiasm. The work of raising awareness among management is usually easier, since they are more used to making decisions and are better able to absorb ideas that are trending among large organizations.

Raising awareness of corporate sustainable practices is more difficult for other employees, as the work routine, in many cases, is not adaptable to the application of what is taught in lectures and training courses promoted by the company on the subject.

Therefore, in these cases, it is essential that employees see their leaders as role models and are convinced that their managers truly believe in the need for this change. Only an integrated and simultaneous effort will bring about changes in the company's culture and operational processes.

2) Sustainable development also means optimizing resources: your company can produce more while spending less

The operational and financial results of investments in sustainable practices can be measured mainly through efficient resource management. This is the case, for example, with efforts in energy efficiency.

Energy efficiency is the administrative concept of producing the same amount of work while consuming less energy. How is this achieved? In industry, for example, energy efficiency is achieved by replacing old equipment with state-of-the-art machines and boilers that are capable of maintaining productivity levels while saving energy.

There are also the best-known ways of managing company resources: reducing water waste, using light bulbs led, computerize data to reduce paper costs, make collective purchases, etc.

3) Companies that join the cause are in tune with society

The notion that there is no longer room for companies that neglect the environmental side in favor of economic and financial aspects is not a given. Society increasingly demands active participation from institutions, selecting the companies with which it is willing to do business based on values that it considers crucial. Environmental responsibility is one of these values.

Staying out of this discussion does not mean “save money that can be spent on other investments within the company”, but miss the great opportunity to be at the forefront of a movement with no turning back and which, sooner or later, will be the only option.

Join the club of large companies that have already adopted the sustainable model

The pressure is not just from society. Large companies around the world have already realized the importance of recreating their corporate management based on three main pillars: environmental, financial and economic. For this reason, it is common to find mega corporations that associate themselves with organizations that promote sustainable development in companies, such as CEBDS, for example.

Organizations such as CEBDS encourage the exchange of ideas not only to propose operational solutions related to sustainability, but also to promote meetings with the public sector and generate strategies for raising funds among associated companies, for example. The idea is to create intelligence on the topic and allow companies to measure investments in the area and learn how to verify the results of this planning.

We know that it is not so simple to complete the process of implementing sustainable practices in your company. It can be difficult to project possible results according to the investment capacity and time available. But that is what we are here for.

After all, can you recognize the importance of sustainable development for your company? Have you faced many challenges in its implementation? Leave your comment so we can interact and talk. We have the expertise of market giants and can provide answers to your questions!
