Last Thursday, December 21, 2023, the Chamber of Deputies approved the bill that aims to regulate the Brazilian Emissions Trading System (SBCE) and establish the bases for the creation of the regulated carbon market in the country.
Since 2016, our Council has worked alongside the Executive and Legislative Powers to build an emissions trading system. The intention is to promote the country's economic and social development through low-carbon initiatives.
The creation of the regulated carbon market assumes even greater importance at the moment Brazil finds itself. The country has the opportunity to position itself as a leader in the new global economy, generating jobs and income based on sustainable initiatives.
We, as representatives of the Brazilian business sector, reiterate our willingness to collaborate with Congress to promote increasingly sustainable businesses.
The project will go to the Senate for analysis.
