Anglo American performs a monthly Water Balance, which aims to identify the enterprise's water demand, as well as water availability. In addition, projects are carried out to recover and protect springs in the region of the Minas-Rio system, in Minas Gerais, and Barro Alto, in Goiás, with the aim of improving the quality and availability of water in these regions. Since the beginning of the projects, 49 springs have been recovered, 33 in Minas Gerais and 16 in Goiás.

The company also participates in the Water Availability Program for the Rio Doce Basin, in partnership with IBIO, which aims to increase water availability in the Rio Doce Basin with the support of the Hydrographic Basin Committees, entities and other companies that operate in the region. Among the works, the incentive to sustainable agriculture, the recovery and preservation of native forest and the incentive to technological innovation, which optimizes the use of water resources, are foreseen.

For nickel operations, the balance is carried out based on the monitoring of the system's water inflows and outflows. For the Minas-Rio system, this balance considers the path of water throughout the production process. The Minas-Rio Water Balance model is being expanded to include nickel operations, making it possible to identify possible areas for improvement in the process and, consequently, reduce consumption and increase water reuse.

For Minas-Rio, the Water Balance is in constant improvement and considers all the water inputs and outputs in the process, as well as the circuit covered. This system is being replicated for the nickel operations. The monitoring of the springs is carried out through visits and visual inspection, with maintenance of the areas, when necessary.
