Targets to reduce new water abstraction

The Anglo American Group has set targets to reduce the abstraction of new water in regions with water scarcity. The goal is to achieve a reduction of 50% by 2030. The company also actively participates in the Special Water Resources Program (PERH), developed by the Brazilian Mining Institute (Ibram).

The Anglo American Group's Sustainability Strategy has as goals the reduction of new water abstraction in water scarcity regions in 20% until 2020 and in 50% until 2030, and the increase of recycling levels of up to 75% of the water used in the business units . The Water Resources Management Plan, developed in 2018 for the Minas-Rio system, is another Anglo American initiative, which helps identify opportunities to reduce consumption and possible conflicts over water use. In addition, the Internal Committee on Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) was created in 2017 to discuss topics, including SDG 6, related to the sustainable management of water and sanitation. The goals discussed within the committee are company-wide.

Anglo American also participates in the Special Water Resources Program (PERH), developed by the Brazilian Mining Institute (Ibram) since 2000, through the entity's active participation in the National Water Resources Council (CNRH) and its Technical Chambers.

The creation of a multidisciplinary group responsible for defining the action plan for the application of the Water Resources Management Plan and fulfillment of the goals is foreseen. This group will hold periodic meetings to monitor actions and possible changes to the Plan.

Actions are monitored by pre-defined responsible areas, as well as in meetings held, the results of which are reported to the company's senior leadership.
