Check out the full letter and understand how the business sector wants to drive the next phase of global climate action.
Dear President of COP30, Ministers and High-Level Climate Champions,
Belém marks a turning point for global climate action. Ten years after the Paris Agreement, we are moving from the negotiation phase to the accelerated implementation phase. This transition is happening because the process is working—now we need to close the gaps.
Our engagement with the COPs began in Earth Summit in Rio de JaneiroFor over thirty years, we have been advocating for the voice of the business sector to support ambition, action, and responsibility. Through Marrakech PartnershipWe have been working side-by-side with governments to increase ambition, accelerate solutions, and give visibility to progress.
We are beginning to see the emergence of a new economyEconomic opportunities exist, and the tools and technologies are already available. Our business members, across all continents, are choosing to invest in countries with clean energy and transition policies capable of stimulating demand. However, this progress is threatened by increasing physical risks: more than half of companies already face climate-related costs. Delaying climate action jeopardizes the long-term prosperity of countries and businesses.
For our members — who represent more than a quarter of global revenues The challenge is no longer understanding the economic logic. They need this COP, and future ones, to use their unique power of coordination to allow that... Governments and businesses move faster together., facing the barriers that prevent the expansion of investments and solutions.
We, the leading global business organizations in sustainabilityWe are united in support of the change towards implementation. Paris Agreement He gave us a script; Global Stocktake He pointed us in the right direction; now, we need him to... Action Agenda Be the driving force behind the delivery.
We need that new five-year plan of the Action Agenda Boost implementation in the real economy through:
- A unified Action Agenda, which eliminates silos, broadens inclusion, and strengthens effective collaboration between businesses and governments.
- An organized structure, which ensures continuity and dynamism each year, adapting to new needs and priorities.
- Absolute focus on the gaps identified by the Global Balance Sheet., accelerating the joint solution of problems to remove barriers and unlock investments, resulting in faster implementation of NDCs It is NAPs.
- Annual monitoring with consistent metrics., to demonstrate impact, assess progress, and guide strategic decisions.
We hope to work with COP30 Presidency, the future COP presidencies, the High-Level Champions for the Climate and the UNFCCC, bringing together governments, businesses and civil society to solve challenges, accelerate implementation, and generate concrete results..
Together, we can close the implementation gap.
