We started the actions for the 2024 UN Biodiversity Conference with an exclusive webinar for our members, entitled “Let's act for nature: the Pre-COP and the paths to COP16”, held on June 14.
The event was attended by Bráulio Dias, Director of Conservation and Sustainable Use of Biodiversity at the Ministry of Environment and Climate Change (MMA), who brought the main points discussed at the 26th Meeting of the Subsidiary Body for Scientific, Technical and Technological Advice (SBSTTA-26) of the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD).
The SBSTTA meeting resulted in important directions for the discussions that will be the focus of COP16, such as: the consolidation of indicators for the goals of the Global Biodiversity Framework and the debate on means of implementation by signatory countries, and also addressed the perspectives and essential themes of the conference, in addition to providing general guidance on participation in COP16.
At COP16, we at CEBDS will lead a delegation of associated companies, with the aim of mobilizing the business sector to urgently take effective actions to halt and reverse the loss of biodiversity.
The conference will be held in Cali, Colombia, from October 21st to November 1st, and will be the first after the adoption of the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework in 2022.
