The CEBDS Leadership Council was created in March 2015 to share the vision of CEOs with government officials at all levels and with society as a whole. Focused on issues that combine productivity of goods and services with conservation of the planet and quality of life in Brazil, the council relies on dialogue, shared knowledge and transparency. This is the path that will point to sustainable solutions for infrastructure, clean energy generation, mobility and smart consumption, and other bottlenecks in the country's balanced development.
In this post, we will explain what is Council of Leaders, in addition to its role as an intermediary between companies and other voices in society. Follow us!
What is the Council of Leaders?
The CEBDS Leadership Council brings together senior executives from large companies operating in Brazil and observers of society. The group's mission is to propose new solutions that foster sustainable development for businesses.
This is an initiative that works to increase dialogue between company CEOs and the government at the municipal, state and federal levels. Participation is not restricted to public authorities and corporations: precisely to ensure a greater plurality of views, it was decided that two members of the debates promoted by the council would be members of civil society, whom we call “observers”.
The core of the Council is the idea that the exchange of knowledge between companies of all sizes, the public authorities and civil society is essential and healthy for the country to prosper in economic, social and environmental terms.
To give you an idea, the then Ministers of Finance, Joaquim Levy, and of the Environment, Izabella Teixeira, participated in the first meeting of the Council last year. And on August 24 of this year, we presented to the National Congress the two proposals developed by the Council to the current Minister of the Environment, Sarney Filho, and to deputies and senators.
What are the topics discussed by the Council?
The proposal for the topics to be discussed is entirely decided based on dialogue between all interested parties. The discussions are on specific and practical topics. Various data are collected and presented during the meetings to support the development of joint solutions.
The aim of the studies is precisely to understand the boundaries of action of each sector – companies, public bodies and the community – and to unite knowledge, generating productive and collective solutions. For this reason, it is necessary that at least more than one company is interested in the topic. These are actions designed as a group and that can bring benefits to all interested parties. (stakeholders).
The proposed discussions mainly address the confrontation of climate change and the business solutions and public policies that allow us to move towards a low-carbon economy. The objective is to study and propose sustainable actions in the business chain that, inserted into the routine of companies and encouraged by public management, can:
- Be inclusive;
- Stimulate technological innovations;
- Generate profits;
- Conserve natural resources;
- Reduce costs;
- Increase competitiveness;
- Expand employment and income opportunities.
These are actions designed to develop and offer solutions to businesses that balance the needs of all stakeholders, harmonizing competitiveness and sustainability. Solutions that can be fostered by public policies and provide truly sustainable economic growth in the medium term. It is (or) long term.
What studies has the Council of Leaders already produced?
With this proposal, the Council of Leaders has already prepared and launched two studies on the energy area: one on renewable energy financing and the other on efficient energy consumption. The third study, on freight transport systems using electrified railway networks, will be released later this year. All of these materials feature in-depth analyses, are designed based on the exchange of knowledge between companies and public authorities and provide concrete solutions. Now is the time to join forces and implement them!
The Council is open to all member companies whose CEOss are willing to actively participate in meetings.
