To help the Brazilian business sector prepare for the United Nations Conference of the Parties (COP21) to be held in December in Paris, the Brazilian Business Council for Sustainable Development (CEBDS) and the World Business Council for Sustainable Development (WBCSD) have prepared the document “A business perspective on climate change negotiations”.
The document, published in the form of a guide, provides an analysis of the negotiations, the goals announced by the countries (including Brazil), the financing mechanisms for the necessary investments, etc. It also contains a range of useful information about the Paris Conference and parallel activities.
The initiative is justified by the expectations surrounding COP 21, which is leading to an unprecedented mobilization of society as a whole, including companies, around climate issues. Around 220 companies worldwide are participating in initiatives such as We Mean Business, in preparation for COP 21.
The Paris Conference is expected to result in a new climate agreement that will replace the Kyoto Protocol. And companies believe that they will be able to actively participate in this process, seeking opportunities to expand their businesses in the new global scenario outlined at COP 21. Therefore, they want to understand, influence and be present in the negotiations.
