This week the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) celebrate their first anniversary. Launched between September 25 and 27, 2015 by the United Nations (UN), the SDGs represent a new global agenda for transforming the world we live in. Formally adopted by all 193 UN member states, they establish the commitments of governments, companies and civil society to combat poverty, social injustice, climate change and, therefore, to a sustainable future for the planet and a fairer future for all.
One year after their approval, the implementation of the SDGs continues to challenge companies to find solutions based on sustainable business models. The goal of this new agenda is to achieve the 17 goals by 2030.
“It was with the challenge that the private sector would have – and still has – ahead in mind that we developed a guide to help companies align the SDGs with their strategic objectives,” says the president of the Brazilian Business Council for Sustainable Development (CEBDS), Marina Grossi.
O SDG Guide for Businesses It was produced by the World Business Council for Sustainable Development (WBCDS), the Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) and the UN Global Compact. Representatives of these organizations in Brazil, such as CEBDS, adapted it to the national reality and translated it into Portuguese.
The guide explains how the SDGs affect companies' businesses and offers the tools and knowledge needed for their application, seeking to engage and encourage the private sector to position sustainability at the center of its strategies. Download for free.
