Debates will assess the energy transition on the planet with the participation of the ambassador of the United Arab Emirates, host of this year's Climate Conference
The energy transition, which is essential to combating climate change, is expected to be one of the main themes of this year's UN Climate Change Conference, COP28, which will take place in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, in November. For this reason, the Brazilian Business Council for Sustainable Development (CEBDS) will hold an event to discuss the topic, with representatives from the business sector and the Ambassador of the United Arab Emirates to Brazil, Saleh Alsuwadi.
The Energy Transition & COP28 workshop, which will be broadcast live online, will take place on May 18, from 10 am to 12 pm, and will feature the participation of the president of CEBDS, Marina Grossi; the president of PSR, Luiz Augusto Barroso; and CEOs of companies associated with the Council, in addition to the ambassador of the host country of the UN Conference.
The objective is to discuss the challenges for the decarbonization of the energy sector and the competitive opportunities for Brazil in this sector. After all, the country's territorial extension, climatic conditions and experience with various renewable energy sources represent important advantages in the face of the global need for migration to the use of clean energy.
At the event, CEBDS will launch the study “Roadmap: The Paths of the Brazilian Business Sector in the National Energy Transition”, carried out in partnership with PSR, which presents a series of solutions that companies are already adopting to reduce their greenhouse gas emissions, analyzing opportunities and challenges. The research included interviews with representatives of 22 large companies from various sectors of the economy operating in Brazil, such as mining, beverages and food, cement, steel, air transport, environmental management, energy and the automotive industry.
The solutions presented combine the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions and business opportunities, and range from promising technologies for various sectors to customized solutions for activities in which decarbonization is a greater challenge. The report shows possibilities and challenges for the chemical, cement, oil & gas and steel industries.
