CEOs and experts discuss paths to sustainable growth in the country

Advances and challenges of the green agenda in Brazil will be the theme of the Seminar “Vision 2050: the future is made now”, organized by CEBDS

With the aim of analyzing the advances and challenges of the economic, social and environmental agendas in the country, CEBDS (Business Council for Sustainable Development) is holding the seminar “Vision 2050: the future is now”. The event will take place in São Paulo on June 22, from 9 am to 6 pm, with live online broadcast.

The meeting will bring together sustainability experts, government representatives and business executives, including CEOs and directors from some of the 94 companies associated with CEBDS – which has represented the business sector in the debate on sustainability in the country for 25 years.

Among the speakers is Raul Jungmann, who currently leads institutional relations at Porto Digital and was previously Minister of Agriculture, Defense and Public Security, as well as a federal deputy. The seminar will also feature representatives from the Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Supply and the following companies: Ambev, Arcadis, Azul Linhas Aéreas, Bradesco, BRK Ambiental, Companhia Brasileira de Alumínio (CBA), Grupo Carrefour, Iguá Saneamento, Itaú, JBS, Lojas Renner, Lwart Soluções Ambientais, Microsoft, Natura &Co, Nestlé, Santander, Schneider Electric, Siemens, Vale, Vedacit, WestRock and Yara Brasil.

There will be seven thematic panels, which will analyze topics such as: the Amazon and its development; combating inequality and the role of companies; paths to economic development with nature conservation; and examples of ESG practices in business.

CEBDS represents 94 companies operating in Brazil, whose combined revenues are equivalent to almost 50% of Brazil's GDP and which generate more than 1 million jobs. Vision 2050 is the Council-led publication that presents proposals to address climate, economic and social challenges across eight pillars: people, cities, circular economy, water and sanitation, biodiversity, food, energy and finance.

In addition to discussing the future, the meeting will address a short-term issue. The panel "Multisectoral Dialogue: The Brazil We Need" will discuss Open Letter to Presidential Candidates, in which companies propose 12 lines of action to presidential candidates for a cleaner, more inclusive economy that respects human rights.

“This is a very opportune year because we are witnessing the 30th anniversary of Rio-92 and the elections. The next four years will be decisive in achieving the goals of Vision 2050. Sustainability is no longer an option, but a matter of survival; it must be at the heart of the country’s business and strategic planning. We need to face the challenges to achieve the goals we have set,” emphasizes CEBDS president Marina Grossi. “What kind of country do I want? How do I see myself? What is my potential?”

The debate has master sponsorship from JBS. The gold sponsors are: Arcadis, Azul Airlines, Brazilian Aluminum Company (CBA), Equinor, Lojas Renner, Lwart Environmental Solutions and Yara Brazil.
