Brazilian businesspeople meet with UN Climate Conference president to discuss global warming

COP26 (UN Climate Change Conference) President Alok Sharma, from Britain, will meet this Tuesday, the 29th, with CEOs of the largest companies operating in Brazil and who make up the CEBDS (Brazilian Business Council for Sustainable Development) Leadership Council. The meeting, which will be held online, is exclusive to the Council's nearly 80 member companies and will focus on the challenges and opportunities of the transition towards climate neutrality and the advancement of concrete actions against global warming in the manufacturing sector.

Sharma, who is also a member of the British Parliament, had already met with company CEOs in August 2021, when CEBDS launched the "Business for Climate" positioning, in which 119 companies and 14 industry organizations committed to the effort to combine development and sustainability. The initiative contributed to Brazil's adoption of new commitments during COP26, presided over by Sharma, such as bringing forward the climate neutrality deadline and the forest protection agreement.

Alok Sharma is coming to Brazil for an event organized by the British Embassy and partner organizations to discuss the importance of the business sector's role in the Race to Zero. This is the UN's global campaign that brings together stakeholders from around the world committed to the transition to a greener, more resilient, and carbon-free economy, with the goal of achieving net-zero emissions by 2050. Sharma's visit to Brazil aims to understand how stakeholders who committed to sustainability goals during COP26 intend to fulfill their commitments.
