International event discusses transformations in food systems towards sustainable models

With live broadcast, the meeting will take place on March 1st, with the presence of representatives from the government, business sector, civil society and academia.

With the support of the European Union, representatives from the public and private sectors, academia, and civil society will meet in São Paulo to exchange experiences and create a collective path toward transforming food systems toward sustainable models. The event will take place on March 1st, starting at 8:30 am, and will be broadcast live. The event is organized by CEBDS (Brazilian Business Council for Sustainable Development), UNEP/UN (United Nations Environment Programme), the Capitals Coalition, and the Getulio Vargas Foundation (FGV).

The meeting, called TEEBAgriFood for Business, is part of the Ecosystem Economics and Biodiversity for Agriculture and Food (TEEBAgriFood) project. Participants will have the opportunity to attend presentations by the organizing entities, as well as representatives from the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics (IBGE) and the Ministry of Development and Social Assistance, Family and Fight Against Hunger. Topics covered include the challenges and opportunities for transforming food systems, environmental economic accounting, national and international success stories, and the joint design of strategies for the future.

"This will be a catalytic moment to accelerate the transition to an equitable, ecological, and nature-positive food chain. An event like this is a great opportunity to learn from business cases of the transformation of the Brazilian food system, how to comply with future legislation, disclosure, and nature-related targets, in addition to being inspired by best business practices," analyzes Ricardo Mastroti, executive director of CEBDS.

For the organizers, discussing the topic with diverse stakeholders is extremely important, since food systems, the environment, and society are fundamentally interconnected. This relationship can generate positive or negative impacts, and pose business risks, but also opportunities to thrive in a changing world.
