2019 Women's Leadership Award will provide opportunities for social projects aimed at women

CEBDS award will give visibility to female empowerment initiatives that can be adopted by companies. Applications are open until July 20

Women, companies and NGOs from all over Brazil that take action to empower girls and women and promote gender equality can register for the third edition of the CEBDS Women's Leadership Award. There are four categories that include representatives from the private sector, government and third sector: Associated Companies, New Leaders Initiative, Popular Vote and Social Project.

The first two categories will be judged by a jury made up of notable women in their fields, including the executive director of the Climate and Society Institute, Ana Toni; the director of the Instituto Identidades do Brasil (ID_BR), Luana Génot; the former Minister of the Environment and Senior Fellow for Sustainability, Climate Change and Agriculture at CEBRI, Izabella Teixeira; and Anielle Guedes, from Urban 3D.

In the last category, which debuts this year, the registered projects that meet the requirements of the notice will be presented to the associated companies and may be “adopted” by one of them (or more) for a period of 12 months. The award registration period has been extended until July 20. The notice and registration form are available at cebds.org.

The initiative is from the Brazilian Business Council for Sustainable Development (CEBDS), which represents 60 of the largest business groups in the country and promotes environmental and social sustainability based on the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The award aims to boost Brazil's achievement of SDG 5, which aims to achieve gender equality and empower all women and girls by 2030.

Marina Grossi, president of CEBDS, is currently one of the most influential people in the business sector for promoting diversity and gender equality. In addition to this award, which is in its third edition, Marina holds debates and dialogues with companies and civil society to leverage the increase in the presence of women in high-level leadership positions.

“The participation of more women in decision-making processes in companies, the economy, and politics is one of the paths indicated by the UN for promoting sustainable development. This is one of the great challenges of today, which must be taken on by all of us,” she says.
