President of COP 30 will enhance the participation of the business sector in the climate agenda, says CEBDS

Announced today (21), Ambassador André Corrêa do Lago, Secretary of Climate, Energy and Environment of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, assumed the position of president of COP 30, which takes place in Belém (PA), from November 11 to 21 of this year. For CEBDS (Brazilian Business Council for Sustainable Development), representing the country's business community, the appointment of André Corrêa do Lago will expand collaboration between the public and private sectors.

“Ambassador André Corrêa do Lago’s experience in climate negotiations and his ability to articulate diverse interests are essential skills to not only facilitate negotiations during the UN Conference of the Parties in Brazil, but also to position our country as a protagonist in the global agenda. Over the years, the role of the president of COP 30 has been fundamental in engaging companies from various sectors, expanding the participation of the private sector in discussions on climate change and sustainable development,” said Marina Grossi, president of CEBDS.

Over the past year, Corrêa do Lago has participated in important initiatives promoted by CEBDS, such as meetings with CEOs and senior executives from the more than 110 companies associated with the Council; during Climate Week in New York, the president of COP 30 participated in a “Call to Action” led by the business sector, which advocated for more ambitious Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs) for Brazil; and, also in 2024, CEBDS was invited by André Corrêa do Lago to lead the search for solutions for the decarbonization of five key sectors of the Brazilian economy. And, as a first delivery, in December, we announced a Coalition, alongside the CCR Group and Insper, to contribute to the strategy for reducing emissions in the transportation sector.

All these initiatives highlight André Corrêa do Lago's active role in fostering partnerships between the Brazilian government and the business sector, aiming at the implementation of effective climate policies and the fulfillment of international environmental commitments.

“We know that the COP is an event that begins long before the Conference itself. André Corrêa do Lago has been working in partnership with CEBDS to build a solid and successful path until November and beyond. He will be a key player in strengthening the dialogue, so that COP 30 ends with significant results, especially after the impasses seen during the last conference in Baku,” concludes Marina.
