Document indicates that efficient expansion of the sector can maintain 90% of renewability in the electricity matrix and reduce up to 176 MtCO₂ in global emissions
Brasilia – October 10, 2025 – The expansion of the economically efficient electricity sector without restrictions on energy sources can maintain the percentage of 90% of the renewable electricity matrix and promote synergies for the national and global decarbonization of the economy by up to 176 MtCO2. This will make it possible to reduce emissions from the industrial and transportation sectors through electrification using clean energy. Energy consumption in industry and transportation accounts for 18% of the country's net emissions.
The data is part of a document produced by the Electric Sector Coalition, delivered this Thursday (October 9th) to Ambassador André Corrêa do Lago, president of COP30, and presented to society this Friday (October 10th). The material is a concrete contribution from the sector to the national climate agenda and to the debates of the United Nations Conference on Climate Change, which will be held in November in Belém, Pará.
Led by the Brazilian Business Council for Sustainable Development (CEBDS), with technical and strategic curation by PSR Soluções e Consultoria em Energia, the Coalition was made possible with the support of six industry associations (ABRADEE, ABRATE, ABEEólica, ABRACE, ABIAPE and ABRAGE), and had the participation of more than 70 entities, gathered in four thematic axes: Generation, Transmission, Distribution and Consumption.
"Brazil is uniquely positioned to lead the global energy transition and attract investment in low-carbon solutions. This document demonstrates that it is possible to make concrete progress while simultaneously ensuring economic, social, and environmental benefits," said Marina Grossi, president of CEBDS.
"Brazil can transform its comparative advantage, based on a clean electricity matrix, into a true competitive advantage. The technical work has shown that, with planning, adequate regulation, and innovation, the electricity sector can be the engine of decarbonization for the Brazilian and global economy," emphasized Luiz Barroso, CEO of PSR.
"The Coalition brings together a diverse set of voices from the electricity sector around a common vision. This convergence is essential to ensuring a more renewable, competitive, and reliable energy matrix, with fairer tariffs and real benefits for Brazilians," highlighted Marcos Madureira, president of ABRADEE and leader of the Coalition.

Through forums with representatives from the electric power industry, the Coalition sought convergence and consensus, defining ambitions and priority levers for a fair energy transition and the sustainable development of the sector.
The Coalition's ambitions are:
- Ensure the renewability, competitiveness and reliability of the Brazilian electricity matrix;
- Reduce inequalities, promote economic growth, and boost the production and consumption of low-emission goods and services through electricity.
- Position Brazil as a global hub for low-carbon products and services, making a decisive contribution to solving the climate crisis.
With this vision, the Coalition proposes preserving the exemplary nature of Brazil's electricity grid, ending subsidies, improving infrastructure planning, strengthening regulation and innovation to overcome climate and operational challenges, and promoting public policies that expand the electrification and decarbonization of the economy. The goal is to consolidate Brazil as a central player in the energy transition, offering the world a "green bonus" with competitive and decarbonized products.

Expected results for the electricity sector in 2050
