Neutralize environmental impact as a commitment for 2030

After overcoming some commitments, Grupo Boticário challenged itself and established ambitious commitments in 2021 that encompass its direct operations and its value chain, and among them we committed ourselves to zeroing out the water balance of industrial water in our operations and reducing the volume of water by 50% extracted by our critical suppliers. From this, action plans were deployed that make up a robust roadmap and an annual goals monitoring system, making the water theme gain even more robustness within the company.

Today, Grupo Boticário works to increase the reuse of water in our factory and distribution center operations, seeking efficiency through the development of technologies that make us achieve neutrality, closing the cycle of water use. Today, water is reused in toilets, floor cleaning, gardens and cooling towers. In addition, we reuse water at the factories and use rainwater at the DCs. And the recirculated or collected volumes undergo proper treatment using state-of-the-art technology.
Another point that contributed to this topic being included in the business was the impact of these eco-efficiency targets on the variable remuneration of executives in the responsible area.

Our results so far are as follows:
Total consumption (m3) in 2020: 288,011.5
Reuse/rainwater (m³) in 2020: 67,743.7
Water intensity m³/ton produced3 5.4 5.6 5.5
Obtaining a reuse (% on the Consumed volume) in 2020 of 23.5% and with a target for 2021 of 25.0%.
Being a highlight at the Camaçari (BA) plant, thermal cleaning avoided the use of chemical products, with the same biological quality. The result: reduction of effluents and increased possibilities of water reuse. We have also developed a vacuum pump for transporting components.

For improvements by 2025, we have the fulfillment of our roadmap of projects to reach the 2030 commitments, and we will seek better technology and innovations that drive this front, in addition to intensifying the reuse of water in factories and distribution centers. Bringing better solutions for the use of rainwater.

In addition to the overall target, the areas have specific targets for reducing consumption. We monitor water consumption performance through absolute and relative indicators, per ton produced in the factories and per hour worked in the case of DCs and offices.1. Installation of equipment that allows 100% to use reused water in the cooling towers;
The targets for 2025 are as follows: 60% in water efficiency gains (water consumed per ton of product) at the factories compared to 2005. And 50% in water reuse or use of rainwater over total consumption at operational sites.
