Coalition Brazil Climate, Forests and Agriculture

  • Posted in 25/06/2015

The Brazilian Business Council for Sustainable Development (CEBDS) in an alliance with the Forest Dialogue, Climate Observatory, Ethos Institute and other organizations, launched the Brazil Climate, Forests and Agriculture Coalition.

The initiative has an immediate focus on promoting a responsible, inclusive and competitive low-carbon economy, and aims to contribute to the proposal to be presented by the Brazilian government to the UNFCCC in 2015. Aiming to promote the country as a leading global leader in the sustainable economy, the document presented should be used as a subsidy for the proposal that Brazil will take to Paris, at the 21st Climate Change COP, in December. The set of proposals presented by the Coalition seek to make viable measures for the recovery of permanent preservation areas and legal reserves, within the scope of the legislation, in addition to working on economic forest planting in degraded areas.

“Brazil is a leading player in debates on forest preservation and has technology to reduce carbon dioxide, which is important from a business perspective. In my opinion, this is essential and the country must show this opportunity to the world.”, said Marina Grossi, president of CEBDS at the opening of the event, which was attended by 230 people.

The Coalition began its activities in late 2014 and, during several meetings, sought to draft a collective document based on dialogues between different business institutions, companies and civil society organizations. The intention is to promote broad participation by Brazilian society, aiming for the contribution of all those involved.

Even after the document was released, the group remains open to new participants and relevant contributions. To date, we have had 90 members. For more information, please contact Ana Carolina Szklo, CEBDS Project and Content Manager (anacarolina@cebds.org).
