The Brazilian Business Council for Sustainable Development (CEBDS), the Secretariat of Agriculture of the State of São Paulo, and BM&FBOVESPA held the seminar “Environmental Assets Market” on Monday (10.08). The event addressed the system created by the new Forest Code, Law 12651/2012, which innovated by establishing market mechanisms for compliance with environmental obligations of owners or possessors of rural properties in the State of São Paulo.
Marina Grossi, president of CEBDS, was part of the opening panel and was responsible for moderating Panel I: “The environmental liabilities of the legal reserve in the State of São Paulo and the compensation institute provided for in the new Forestry Law”. Also speaking on the subject were Mario Engler Pinto Junior, professor at the Getúlio Vargas Foundation (FGV) and former state attorney; Ricardo Rodrigues, professor at the Luiz de Queiroz College of Agriculture (Esalq); and Plinio Ribeiro, CEO of Biofílica Environmental Investments.
We must give due importance to the creation of initiatives and mechanisms that facilitate the environmental regularization of properties in the country, while at the same time helping to protect/recover the forests that protect our water sources. The water crisis in São Paulo has proven the importance of systemic thinking, where the environment, water and agriculture are treated and managed in an integrated manner., pondered Marina.
The event also featured another panel to discuss “Environmental assets market in São Paulo”. Also present were important names such as Márcio França; the Secretary of Agriculture and Supply, Arnaldo Jardim; Edemir Pinto, CEO of BM&FBOVESPA; Fabio Meirelles, president of the Federation of Agriculture and Livestock of the State of São Paulo (Faesp); and Murilo Portugal Filho, president of the Brazilian Federation of Banks (Febraban).
