Rainwater harvesting

Norflor's sustainability team carried out an assessment of possible alternatives to optimize the use of water in its developments. It was concluded that reservoirs for storing rainwater would be a viable, effective and low-cost alternative. In addition to the reservoirs, the theme of water was included and emphasized in meetings of the Environmental Education Program presented both to neighboring communities and Norflor's internal employees. The objective of both actions was to make better use of rainwater, thus reducing the pressure on watercourses, as well as to make PEA participants aware of the importance of this scarce resource.

The use of rain is done by channeling and storing the water that runs off the roofs, being a low-cost alternative that reduces the pressure on rivers and reservoirs.
Norflor implemented, in 2018 and 2019, a collection system by conducting water from the roofs of the input and machinery sheds to a reservoir that can meet the demand at the company's headquarters.
Because it comes from rain, the water obtained is not considered potable, therefore, not suitable for human consumption. Even so, it can be used in several daily tasks, such as washing machines, cleaning common areas, diluting inputs and others.

Norflor is carrying out studies with the objective of verifying the possibility of building new reservoirs. The studies are based on the volume of water collected currently and forecast for the coming years.

The measurement of the results is based on questionnaires applied in the PEA meetings, and a diagnosis of the assessment of the impacts of Norflor's management. In these evaluations, the perception of the participants regarding the understanding of the environmental themes discussed is verified.
