CEBDS takes proposals from the Brazilian business sector to the UN meeting on biodiversity

Meeting in Switzerland with 196 countries will discuss the new Biodiversity Framework, which will set targets to reduce damage to nature caused by human activity

Starting Monday, the 14th, CEBDS (Brazilian Business Council for Sustainable Development) will be in Geneva, Switzerland, to present the Brazilian business sector's proposals for the new Biodiversity Framework. The preparatory meeting for the new global agreement on nature conservation will be held there, with negotiators from 196 countries in attendance.

CEBDS, which represents 85 companies and around 50% of national GDP, It will directly participate in meetings where international negotiations take place and hold bilateral meetings with the Brazilian government, as well as events with international partners. In recent years, the Council has worked directly with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to develop Brazil's position, reinforcing the importance of the business sector as a solution for sustainable development.

Brazilian companies are committed to playing a leading role in and for the conservation of biodiversity through actions, projects, and initiatives that aim to comply with internal laws and voluntary targets and that will contribute to the achievement of global goals.

Among its main actions, the Council will highlight the importance of ending illegal deforestation and reversing the loss of natural areas, favoring the sustainable use of natural resources.

“Brazil is highly dependent on ecosystem services and biodiversity for a significant portion of its GDP, and has vast business opportunities in a nature-based economy,” argues Henrique Luz, technical coordinator and leader of the Biodiversity Thematic Chamber at CEBDS. "The business sector's proposals will encourage businesses to generate positive impacts on nature. By collaborating on defining operational goals and metrics and prioritizing investments in sustainable solutions, companies aim to promote, in the short term, a new development model based on a green economy that generates jobs and income sustainably."
