Water Security Seminar discussed innovations in the area of water management

  • Posted in 19/04/2024

The 2024 Water Security Seminar, held by us at CEBDS in partnership with Firjan and CNI, addressed fundamental issues to face water scarcity amid the worsening of extreme weather events.

At the opening of the seminar, Juliana Lopes, CEBDS Director of Nature and Society, highlighted the need to integrate water security into business strategy, highlighting that the corporate agenda can significantly contribute with technology and human resources to drive this vital agenda.

The president of the Firjan Environmental Business Council, Isaac Platcha; the superintendent of Environment and Sustainability of the National Confederation of Industry (CNI), Davi Boitempo; and the Secretary of State for Environment and Sustainability of Rio de Janeiro, Bernardo Rossi, were also part of the opening of the first day.

The event continued with a talk on Water Security in a Strategic Context, given by Gregory Holiday, Director, 50L Home & Member of the WBCSD Extended Leadership Group. Afterwards, a cycle of discussion panels began, which addressed water security, bioeconomy, business, technologies, sanitation and water reuse, with the presence of technical experts on the subject.

The second day of the event began with a lecture by Professor Kongjian Yu, creator of the sponge city concept, on the prevention of Urban Floods in the Context of Climate Change. Once again, panels with the presence of experts in water security and infrastructure to combat climate change took place, bringing the discussion of the water issue to everyone present.

The Seminar included the participation of several CEBDS member companies, both as panelists and listeners to the cases and dissemination of advanced methodologies for water management in the business and urban context.

Some of the participants representing associates were Carlos Gonzalez (Petrobras); Eduardo Pedroza (GS Inima Industrial); Guilherme Melo (Vale); Luis Armacollo (Ecolab); Marilene Ramos (Águas do Brasil Group); Rodrigo Pereira (Iguá Saneamento); Ronaldo Ribeiro (Amazon) and Thiago Valente (Fundação Grupo Boticário).
