Manaus produces clean energy from gases collected in landfills

The city of Manaus, capital of the state of Amazonas, started producing clean energy from capturing methane gas in its Sanitary Landfill, installed at Km 19 of AM–010. The estimate of energy production is 10 megawatts, which is already being captured in the form of gas. In addition to energy production, the capture of biogas installed in the complex continues to break down methane gas, which has 22 times more impact on the greenhouse effect than carbon dioxide (CO²), thus obtaining more carbon credits for the Manaus City Hall.

“This is cause for much celebration. The surplus gas is already generating carbon credits and there is an immense possibility of working with this project as a source of companies, jobs, income, a source of clean energy. This gas issue is revolutionary. It is an innovation, it is very strong”, said Mayor Arthur Virgílio Neto.
