The construction and effective implementation of mitigation and adaptation actions require multi-level climate governance, involving national and subnational governments. In the Brazilian context, characterized by federalism and its distinct governmental, socioeconomic, cultural, political and environmental realities, the absence of effective climate federalism makes it difficult to successfully implement a national climate change policy.
This was the theme of the event 'Challenges for the construction of an effective climate federalism in Brazil', in which Viviane Romeiro, our Director of Climate, Energy and Sustainable Finance, participated, at the invitation of the Ministry of Environment and Climate Change. The meeting aimed to establish discussions necessary to establish climate federalism in Brazil, recognizing the importance of overcoming challenges and creating collaborative strategies to face the climate crisis.
The discussion was attended by Isis Rafaela Camaraense, Secretary of the Environment and Sustainability of Paraíba; Patrícia Miranda Menezes, Advisor to Barcarena City Hall; Marcio Astrini, Executive Secretary of the Climate Observatory; and André Chaves de Andrade from the Ministry of the Environment.
