Workshop discusses challenges and perspectives of the new Global Biodiversity Framework

Open online event brings together representatives from the business sector, government, finance, and society to discuss nature preservation

Business for Nature (BfN), in partnership with CEBDS (Brazilian Business Council for Sustainable Development), the International Chamber of Commerce (ICC Brasil), The Nature Conservancy (TNC) and WWF-Brazil, will hold, next Monday (30), the virtual event “Construction of the new Global Biodiversity Framework: challenges and perspectives for implementing the goals”. With live broadcast on YouTube and open to the public, the workshop takes place from 9:30 am to 11 am.

The event will bring together prominent representatives from the Brazilian government, the business community, financial institutions, and the third sector to discuss the importance of the social dimension combined with nature conservation and sustainable business strategies toward achieving significant changes that will be decisive in curbing the loss of biodiversity worldwide, with repercussions on the economy, and leading the planet toward a vision of living in harmony with nature by 2050.

The objective is to foster discussions about the new Post-2020 Global Biodiversity Framework, which is being developed by the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD). The lectures will focus primarily on presenting the opportunities and challenges involved in implementing and financing a new economy based on nature conservation.

The event's topics will include some of the points discussed in the last round of negotiations at the CBD technical meetings, held in March of this year in Geneva. Discussions will address, for example, resource mobilization and impacts on the supply chain, considered key points for developing an ambitious and innovative framework.
